Most of them are related to the Air Force, and quite a few of them offer a downloadable EPS file. This could be just the resource you were looking for to make more of those trendy badges you see every where.

No, I wasn’t there. In fact I had no idea it even happend until today when someone sent me a link to a Flickr gallery showing it. I really like this project, very creative. After seeing this, I’m inspired to do something similar with Stormtroopers. I think the troopers would be a fun take on this concept because there are millions of them and they all look the same (except for maybe a badge or shoulder pad showing rank). I think it’s time the troopers got a little individuality, even tho they are all just clones.

In other news, I’ve switched browsers. I’m now using Flock. Not to sound like too much of a sales person, but I’m really impressed with it so far. If you’re not familiar with it, I’ll give you a brief rundown. It’s basically a different version of FireFox. It’s built off the same architecture, and has a lot more features. I’m really enjoying the Media Browser, as well as the integrated blog tools – which I used to write this post. All of the FireFox extensions I used before work great on Flock so I can use it for my design/developer purposes as well as my recreational web needs. On top of that, my buddy Tim designed the badass interface that really sets it apart from other browsers. He told me that I couldn’t combine Flock with Star Wars, guess I proved him wrong with this post.

Yep, that’s right, I can no longer be trusted.

In the spirit of getting older, I invite you all to reminisce with me a little. Here’s a collection of old videos from Sesame Street, some of you may remember the Number Painter. He was always one of my favorite characters. I wonder if he were to try and do that today if he would get arrested? I could see one of those episodes ending with him sitting in a cell, painting a mark for every day he’s been there.

After researching a little on how to go about constructing an HTML email template I have come to one conclusion, “that sh*tz whack!” I thought designing things to display properly in all browsers was difficult, now I find out that most email clients are light years behind their big brother browsers when it comes to CSS support (if they support it at all).

Oh well, that’s what I get paid for – to solve problems (and if I’m lucky, make it look pretty).

Here’s a list of resources I’ve come up with to begin my research:

As I was saying, I’ve only done a little research so far. If someone out there has some better advise to offer, please leave me a comment.

For now, I’m off to that wonderful world of tables and in line styles!

Today’s web is crazy. Open ID is a pipe dream. Every direction you turn you’re forced to create yet another account. Most of the time it’s for one of those throw-away web startups created 10 times a day, but occasionaly it’s worth the effort. It might be to purchase some fancy threads, order a pizza or see how fat the Cool Kids from high school have become. When it’s that important, you can’t afford to drop the ball. With a useless account you can practice without fear. So when it comes to the crunch, you’re ready!

OurStory at DEMO ‘07

Yesterday, the company I work for OurStory finally shed its BETA tag and unveiled our product to the world at DEMO ‘07. From what I have heard, our presentation went really well. I’m not that surprised, we have a great product and our founder, Andy Halliday, is a great speaker and is very passionate about our product.

My birthday is coming up soon. You wouldn’t be able to get one in time for that, but you could maybe preorder one for me and then just give me a nice card telling me what will be arriving on my doorstep in April…

What am I talking about you ask? The ModBook, that’s what! Axiotron is taking the latest model of the MacBook and modding them into the first Mac Tablets. It’s cool because you can add what ever bells and whistles you want and then they custum build your machine for you. Sure it’s a little pricey, but what really cool toys/tools aren’t.

Here’s a couple of cool new things I found:

VirtueDesktops – this handy little app lets you set up different desktops that run at the same time. I use it at work and have set up desktops for Working, Playing, and Corresponding.
MochiAds – contains a whole bunch of sample Flash games. I’ve only played with a couple so far, but I’m already pretty fond of just floating around in Fly Guy, the music they chose for it is very relaxing.

gradients and colors without photoshop

When in the heat of a deadline and you’re expected to throw together a layout, you don’t really want to be bothered with opening up unnecessary programs that just might slow down the whole process…

Here’s a couple of ways you can avoid opening photoshop just to add a gradient or get a color for your CSS file.

A List Apart has a way to create a gradient of any color or size with a .png or two.
(don’t worry, they have a way to get it to work for IE6)
Super-Easy Blendy Backgrounds
For you OSX users out there, here’s a widget that will give you a quick and easy way of converting Hex values to RGB, CMYK or HSV.
(or the other way around of course -don’t worry, it appears to offer a Windows alternative)ColourMod

alistapart.com – it doesn’t get much better than this. Some of the industries top designers/engineers giving top notch advice (for free!)
thinkvitamin.com – again, top notch advice from those ones who wrote the books and make it happen
wisdump.com – very simple look and feel, very in depth advice
